Ever since I can remember, my father always had cameras. At first it was film, then digital. I didn't really understand it, or think there was anything interesting or remarkable about it, but somehow over time I [ahem] developed a love for photography without even realising it!
I remember being allowed to use up the last of the film in a camera after a family holiday, so that they could go and be developed. To me, those were some of the best photos, because they were fun and spontaneous. Yes, cameras were omni-present, and I suppose that's why I didn't care, because I took it for granted.
Some years ago, my dad got a new camera and gave me his old Panasonic Lumix camera. I did use it a fair bit but it still wasn't something that interested me particularly. However, in December 2017, out of the blue completely, I suddenly had an overwhelming desire to up my photgraphy game. I say out of the blue, but perhaps it was prompted by looking at photos from a trip to New York in August that year, all taken on the iPhone, and realising the quality of the pictures was pretty poor. So I went out and bought myself a Sony a6000 camera, which came with a kit lens, and I also bought a 50mm prime lens, which I still love!
Right away I was absolutey hooked. I wanted to do it all; Portrait, Landscape, Time Lapse, Long Exposures, Macro, Animals, Street... I wanted to learn as much as possible. I still do. I'm on a quest to constantly improve the quality of my work, and to create my own style and voice. This is a work in progress and I don't believe I'll ever reach a point of feeling that I'm done.
